Welcome Letter from Superintendent Larry Knapp

To all Hamilton community members, parents and students,

I hope this message finds you well.  With state testing getting into full swing for the next few weeks, school takes on a different climate and I am confident that everyone in our schools are doing their best to provide our kids with a great testing environment.

As most of you already know, the Board of Education recently announced their intent to hire me as Superintendent to finish up this school year, and to continue on through the 2018-19 school year as well.  Along with that, the Board announced their intent to promote Mike Holbrook to Associate Superintendent and plan on Mike taking the helm for the 2019-20 school year.  We are both honored and excited to continue to be a part of the Hamilton School District family and look forward to the great things that lay ahead for us all.

As a community, a district and as individuals, we’ve all been through a lot since early February.  With recent events we can now turn the corner and get back to focusing 100% on what we have all been hired to do, educating our students.

It has been the intent of central office staff and building administrators to insulate our building staffs and students from the distractions that unfortunately came out in the last two months, so we could continue to move forward.  It has only been with everyone’s help, dedication, and fortitude that we have been able to do this, and I want each of you to know how much I appreciate your support and sense of efficacy during this difficult time.  Most of all, I am hopeful that we can all take the next step together and put this behind us, heal as a district and move on with the exciting programs that have gone into place the last few years.

Programs such as …

  • The Literacy Collaborative and our Literacy Coaches
  • Connected Math at the middle schools and Investigations at the elementaries
  • Professional development for Diagnostic Assessments using I Ready
  • The 1 to 1 Chromebook initiative with students
  • Secondary quarterly assessments
  • The district wide MindPeace mental health component

I know I am missing some other great things that have been started but my point is that we have a good thing going here at Hamilton and I am convinced that if we all work together it can be great to the benefit of all our students.  I look forward to working with all of you and appreciate the opportunity to do so.
