The Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention is a powerful, short-term intervention, that provides daily, intensive, small-group instruction, which supplements classroom literacy teaching. LLI turns struggling readers into successful readers with engaging leveled books and fast-paced, systematically designed lessons.

The Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention System(LLI) is an intensive, small-group, supplementary literacy intervention for students who find reading and writing difficult. The goal of LLI is to lift the literacy achievement of students who are not achieving grade-level expectations in reading. The LLI systems are designed to:

  • Advance the literacy learning of students not meeting grade-level expectations in reading
  • Deepen and expand comprehension with close reading
  • Elevate the expertise of teachers
  • Increase reading volume by engaging students in large amounts of successful daily reading
  • Increase student engagement with books that build knowledge
  • Intervene with small groups of struggling readers to maximize growth
  • Meet the needs of struggling readers
  • Monitor student progress.*

LLI is organized so that each color varies in interest level and complexity of text.  The entire program has over 1,000 leveled readers. The program covers levels kindergarten-high school reading levels. At Brookwood LLI is being used by Title 1 teachers, intervention specialists, and general education teachers in grade K-6.

Do The Math rebuilds critical mathematical foundations for understanding and:

  • Develops understanding of key concepts and skills with whole numbers and fractions—the essentials necessary for students to succeed in algebra and higher-level mathematics
  • Provides lessons that balance developing understanding and learning procedures
  • Strengthens students’ ability to make sense of concepts, solve problems, reason, and use appropriate tools

The addition of a new program—especially a technology-based one—is bound to raise questions related to why it was chosen, how it works, and how to communicate its purpose to parents. Here you will find a brief overview of i-Ready, as well as links to other resources and articles. Our goal is to provide helpful “talking points” as well as a solid basis for communications with members of your community, including parents, teachers, and other staff.

What is i-Ready Diagnostic & Instruction?

At its core, i-Ready is a tool for delivering differentiated instruction. It combines an adaptive K–12 diagnostic and growth measure and individualized student instruction in a single product that helps teachers personalize instruction for every child.

i-Ready Diagnostic (grades K–12) assesses students’ academic skills in math and reading, helping teachers design individualized instruction for them based on their unique needs. Proven to predict performance on state assessments, it expands the realm of purposeful assessments, going beyond screening and progress monitoring to provide growth measures and targeted assessment of grade-level instruction, and eliminating the need for numerous unrelated assessments in one school.

i-Ready Diagnostic, which typically takes place three times a year, assesses skills across the math and reading domains aligned to college and career-readiness standards:

i-Ready Instruction (grades K–8) provides each student with a personalized instruction plan based on the results of from i-Ready Diagnostic. The plan includes a tailored combination of online instruction and downloadable lessons for teacher-led instruction (e.g. individual, small groups, or whole class). This allows teachers to meet each student’s unique needs. Mobile apps provide additional independent practice that addresses key skills. Because of the way i-Ready Diagnostic works as an adaptive assessment, teachers and parents can feel confident that each student’s instruction path is highly prescriptive and built uniquely to meet each student’s needs.
